Investing in the future of education
Knowledge and access to education change people’s lives for the better, so we’re investing in emergent companies, services, and solutions so more of us can learn, grow, and thrive.
At ITHAKA, we build nonprofit services, like JSTOR and Ithaka S+R, that create more affordable access to knowledge and education. But no one can do it alone. To maximize our mission-impact, we also invest in others who share our values and care as much as we do about changing the status quo.
Our investment portfolio includes companies leveraging technology equitably and sustainably to transform various aspects of the learning enterprise—all of which help more students and researchers succeed.
Anno/Hypothesis
Hypothesis adds a collaborative layer over online content. For educational institutions, this technology makes learning active, visible and social, improving reading proficiency and critical thinking through deep and direct engagement with course materials.
Mainstay
Mainstay partners with over 225 institutions to support millions of students throughout the higher educational journey with empathetic, conversational guidance, powered by an AI-enabled engagement engine.
Beyond this portfolio, in the past decade, ITHAKA also merged with Artstor and acquired Reveal Digital—both organizations that increase affordable access to digitized images and primary source collections.
Perlego
Perlego improves student success by providing affordable access to more than 1 million textbooks through an easy-to-use, tool-rich digital library.
Learning is at the heart of ITHAKA’s mission and our culture. Sometimes lessons come through hands-on collaboration and other times by having an up-close seat at the table. We are committed to learning from those we invest in and to sharing those ideas that have the potential to transform education.
