The Role

Now is your chance to take advantage of a unique opportunity to join ITHAKA’s Outreach Team as a Summer Intern and learn how we work directly with libraries to provide access to JSTOR and other ITHAKA products and services.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive intern to join our International Sales Team, focusing on optimizing our engagement with libraries worldwide. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sales strategy, database management, and customer communication while contributing directly to our efforts to connect libraries with high-quality electronic resources.
The intern will work on a comprehensive project to update our current contact database, identify library subject selectors, develop a framework for maintaining up-to-date contacts, and optimize outreach templates for various scenarios. This role will report to the Sr. Director for Institutional Development and Strategic Partnerships.
This internship lasts for 12 weeks, beginning on June 2, 2025. To be considered for this opportunity, please ensure your application is submitted by the deadline of January 31, 2025.
Responsibilities
Contact Database Management
- Audit and update the current library contact database, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Research and identify key decision-makers (e.g., subject selectors) at academic, public, and research libraries.
Framework Development
- Create a sustainable workflow for regular updates to the contact database.
- Identify and document reliable sources for finding and verifying contact information.
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for database maintenance.
Communication Optimization
- Organize and standardize communication database.
- Modify existing and draft new email templates tailored for common sales scenarios, such as introducing products, following up, and re-engaging inactive accounts.
- Customize templates to address different library types and regions effectively.
Reporting and Collaboration
- Collaborate with the sales team to understand priorities and challenges.
- Present findings, updated contacts, and the proposed framework to the team at the end of the internship.
- Gather feedback and refine deliverables based on team input.
Experience and Skills
- Current graduate student or upper-level undergraduate student.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar tools for database management.
- Experience with knowledge base software such as Confluence, Wiki, etc.
- Familiar with Google Suite: Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive.
- Research skills, with the ability to find and verify information from reliable sources.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Sugar CRM, Salesforce) or other database platforms.
- Knowledge of library operations or familiarity with academic/research institutions.
- Interest in sales, marketing, or library sciences.

Compensation
